MAKE MONEY FROM YOUR MOTORHOME WITH BUY TO HIRE
Earn up to £540.00 per week (peak season) from your motorhome when you're not using it by hiring out your motorhome.
Why Hire out my Motorhome?
Income from hiring your motorhome can easily cover all your annual motorhome running costs giving you a motorhome to use yourself for free! The exact income you can earn per week will depend on the size and age of your motorhome as well as where in the UK you live and what accessories you have for hire. Accessories such as awnings, tables and chairs, satellite navigation devices, bike racks, roof racks etc. can all earn you extra money. You can also earn extra money by offering additional services such as pick-ups from train stations or airports.
Why Use Bongo Holidays to Hire out my Motorhome?
Bongo Holidays has been hiring motorhomes for over 6 years and can help you avoid the pitfalls of hiring out a motorhome and keep you compliant with the law by:
-
We market your motorhome – all our motorhomes were fully booked between June and early September 2011 and during this period we turned away thousands of pounds worth of hires. You could make money from this massive demand for motorhome hire this summer and beyond.
-
We create a bespoke listing for your Motorhome on www.bongoholidays.co.uk just for your motorhome. You can send us an unlimited number of photos to add, details of extras, whether you offer a delivery and collection service, train station transfers etc. It’s your page to add whatever information you’d like to.
-
You set the rules for your vehicle. Pets or no pets, festivals allowed or not, EU use or UK only.
-
We take bookings and deal with payments. Bookings can be made over the phone or via our online booking system which enables hirers to search for a motorhome by number of berths and by location or by features. It also allows hirers to check availability online and for you to mark online the dates when you are using your motorhome yourself.
-
We arrange fully comprehensive insurance for the duration of each hire (you insure the vehicle for your use, we arrange insurance when the vehicle is on hire).
-
We take a damage deposit of £750 for each hire as cleared funds (not a credit card swipe) to cover the insurance policy excess in full and to cover the cost of any accidental damage that costs less than the insurance excess. This encourages hirers to look after your Motorhome.
-
We provide the paperwork, including hire agreements drafted by a qualified solicitor.
-
We provide free advice on hiring out your motorhome.
-
We charge one of the lowest commission rates in the industry leaving you with 80% of the net hire revenue from every hire!
How much will I earn?
We will discuss realistic hire rates for your particular vehicle and location, but as a rough guide you can realistically expect to earn £400 - £600 per week in peak season for 5 or 6 berth motorhomes no more than 7 or 8 years old. You are free to amend the rates charged for your vehicle if you get too few or too many hires. Whatever price you charge, you’ll receive payment for each hire within 3 working days of the commencement of each hire (3 days is how long a BACS transfer takes to process unless you bank with Santander, in which case payment will arrive even quicker).
Will my Motorhome be Damaged or Stolen?
We check the identity of all hirers and keep copies of their driving license, passport or other photo ID and a recent utility bill to guard against the risk of theft or money laundering. We take a £750.00 deposit from all hirers and find that this encourages hirers to take great care of the motorhomes they hire. If they don’t, damage up to £750.00 is covered by the damage deposit and accidental damage above this amount is covered by the fully comprehensive insurance meaning you are never left out of pocket or with a damaged motorhome.
Example
Here's an example. Jane owns a three year old six berth motorhome worth £28k which she only uses for a couple of weeks at Easter and a couple of weeks in June or July. Jim wants to hire it for 7 days in August to use it within England. Jim might expect to pay £750.00 including insurance for the hire for a week. Bongo Holiday's charge for marketing your motorhome, finding the hirer, sorting out the paperwork and insurance etc. would be 20% of £750.00, leaving Jane with a hire income of £540.00 (compare this with other motorhome booking agents who may pay the owner as little as £450 per week for a six berth motorhome in August). All this costs Jane is a bit of time to do the handover with the hirer, the cost of refilling the gas bottle as and when necessary (£20) and the cost of a splash of toilet and grey water chemicals (under £5) for each hire.
As can be seen from the above example, 3 or 4 hires over the summer will very quickly earn you enough money to pay all your annual motorhome running costs e.g. tax - £215.00, MOT - £50.00, Servicing - £200.00, Storage - £200.00, private insurance - £300.00. It could even cover finance costs for your motorhome or provide you with a bit of extra income to pay for your campsite fees and meals out next time you go on holiday in your motorhome. What's more, the proportion of these costs attributable to hire use of your Motorhome can be offset against tax to reduce your income tax bill, as can some of the depreciation from the Motorhome. This means your running costs could be effectively reduced by up to 50% for additional rate (50%) tax payers and by up to 40% for higher rate (40%) tax payers.
In fact, hiring your Motorhome for only four weeks in the summer could earn you £2,160.00. Hire it out for eight weeks and you could earn £4,320.00 per year before tax. £4,000.00 - £8,000.00 per year pre-tax income is therefore achievable.
What do I need to do?
All you need to do is tell us when you want to hire out your motorhome and be available for half an hour per hire to show hirers how everything works and check the motorhome over upon return. We do the rest. For owners near Peterborough with work commitments, we can even do customer demonstrations and handovers for you - ask for details.
